The Niagara College Residence in Welland opened its doors for business for the first time in September 1997. This location marked the first time that Campus living Centres had entered into a management agreement where the facility was owned by the institution. This three storey 234-bed facility has enjoyed great success in attracting students to the campus as evidenced by healthy waiting lists each year. Situated on the northwest corner of the campus the Residence is the first building that meets the eye when entering at the main access road. This residence was the first in Campus Living Centres portfolio to showcase the two-bedroom floor plan, and it has formed the basis for the majority of new projects that have followed. Some service innovations at the Welland campus included fully provisioned high speed internet, cable and telephone wiring in each bedroom as well as suite climate control and electronic suite entry locks. This facility was also designed with plenty of common space including a games room that acts as the focal point of the main floor as well as study lounges and television lounges dispersed throughout the building. The building’s footprint also has created an expansive courtyard that students use for recreation and relaxation. As well, future expansion can be accommodated very easily.
